Time Management is Tough

Planner struggles have plagued me for the last several years. Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to figure out a size or format that meets my needs.

I assumed my failure was a personal issue. You know,

  • Lack of discipline
  • Unrealistic expectations
  • Laziness
  • etc.
But it occurred to me recently that my struggles aren't a personal failure at all. The truth is, my schedule is tough!  It doesn't fit nicely onto a pre-printed standard page.  It doesn't follow the rules for time management.  It's not consistent or routine or predictable in any way. Every day is completely different!  No wonder I can't figure out what to do!

So I've decided to go easy on myself.  Instead of trying systems and feeling like a failure because I can't make them work, I'm going to keep trying new things until I figure out what does work.  And instead of calling myself a failure because I can't make a system work, I'm going to call the system a failure because it didn't work for me.

Do you struggle trying to find a planner format that works for you and feel like a failure? Maybe it's not you! Maybe you're still trying the wrong system.

  1. Awesome first post! Any system have to be yours. Even the BEST system doesn't work if you can't make it fit your life.

  6. Time management is tough. I have the problem that my schedule can really vary. Sometimes I need the pages with the times listed to make a tight schedule, sometimes I have a list of tasks that aren't time specific, sometimes it's mostly my homeschool day, which I track elsewhere. Right after Christmas, I got some lined pages (like notebook paper but 5.5x8.5) I'm going to use them for the days I need daily pages instead of just the space on the weekly pages.

  8. I recently added DO1P alongside my weeklies. It helps me break out my day, while not crowding my weeklies with all the details.

    1. That's the only way I would be able to do weeklies. I still need a daily list or I don't get anything done.
