GTD Update - Making Progress, Slowly

Do you see those three planners?  I didn't include those just to have a pretty picture at the top of my post.  I included them because I can't decide which one to use.  Yes, I'm dealing with the age old dilemma of which size works best.  I want the extra room provided by the A5 original but I want the portability of the personal Guildford. And just in case I might want something in the middle, I threw in the Franklin Covey compact to further muddy the waters.

I've mainly been going back and forth between the Filofax A5 original and the Filofax personal Guildford.  I've used the Franklin Covey compact a few times but I really want to move on from Franklin Covey.  I used it a long time and I'm read for a change (I think!).

Thoughts About GTD

My journey to implement GTD has been filled with potholes - most of my own making.  For example:

  • I'm making it harder than it needs to be (although it is difficult until you get the hang of it).
  • I'm trying to do it perfect or exactly right.
  • I'm overthinking it.
  • I'm second guessing it.
  • I keep trying different ways to do the brain dump/collection instead of just getting it done.
I am seriously my own worst enemy.

GTD Update #3 - Collection and Context

I keep telling myself that once I get the GTD system set up that things will get better.  But for now - I'm feeling SO overwhelmed - and STUPID!

The thing is . . . I have ADHD . . . sorting actions into categories is something I struggle with.  I don't mind filing (ok - I mind a little) but I HATE trying to decide where to file something.  For example, stuff for my car could go under

automobile
car
Jeep

So sorting things into contexts is like filing but on steroids.  And it's stressing me out.

GTD Update #2

I don't know how I did it, but I managed to completely overwhelm myself with my GTD set-up.  I was on track and feeling good about my progress and then it all went south.

I started out by getting the audio version of Getting Things Done.  I've been listening to it while I drive (my radio is broken), do dishes and fold laundry.  Progress is slower than if I read it, but there's more of a chance I'll finish doing it this way.  I just finished chapter one which was an excellent reminder of why a traditional system doesn't work for me and why GTD might.

Planner Woes - Ready to Try Something New!

I've been a bad girl this year and have been spending waaaaaaaay tooooooo much time trying different planners and different planning systems.  I feel like I've tried just about everything out there.

However, during my journey to find planner peace, I've learned a few things about myself and what I need.

Three Girls and Three Very Different Planners - a Look Inside All Three!

The three of us are all part of the same family, but if you look through our planners, you'll find them to be very different.  My daughter-in-law, Ashley, is the most creative with her planner.  My daughter, Rachel, likes hers super simple and I'm somewhere in the middle.  But let's not waste any more time - let's look inside our planners.

How I'm Failing at GTD

I really want to do GTD (David Allen's Getting Things Done) but I can't seem to do it.  I've read the book.  I've watched videos and read articles.  I've read his information on how to set GTD up in a paper planner.  But I still can't do it.
